Biographical note

Paul Granlund was born in Minneapolis, MN, on October 6, 1925. After serving in World War II in the Army Air Corps, he received his BA degree from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN in 1952. He earned his MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1954, the same year he earned a Fulbright to study sculpture in Italy. During the 1960s, Granlund was head of the sculpture department at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. He joined the faculty of Gustavus Adolphus College in 1971, becoming their sculptor-in-residence until his retirement in 1996. He is the subject of two books which chronicle the many bronze sculptures he created. Granlund was married and had four children. He died in Mankato on September 15, 2003.
